Seminarian Summer Program 2017
June 5-29, 2017: Tallahassee, FL
The summer program provides an in-depth integration of the human formation with the other three pillars of seminary formation (spiritual, intellectual and pastoral). Seminarians will be assisted to grow in holiness and wholeness, through teaching, individual and group prayer experiences, daily Eucharist, Reconciliation, journaling, and community interaction. The program is designed as a transformational journey into the Father’s heart in order for the seminarian to grow more fully into his identity as Beloved Son. The seminarian will be encouraged to develop in personal integration, chastity and increased capacity to enter into intimate prayer with the Trinity. He will learn how to better discern the spiritual movements of the heart, while becoming better equipped to accompany and assist others on their spiritual journey.
The program is offered by the John Paul II Healing Center in Tallahassee, FL. The Center is a Catholic ministry dedicated to serving bishops, priests, religious, seminarians, families, married couples, therapists and lay ministers, to bring about transformation in the heart of the Church.
St. John Neumann Center, Tallahassee, FL. The center has a chapel for prayer and adoration, and is located next to Blessed Sacrament Church, offering a 24 hour adoration chapel and available Mass times, morning and evening every day. The center is run by Dasha Nixon, the brother of Father Michael Nixon and son of Permanent Deacon Mike Nixon.

Overview of Program
Week One (Theology) “Restoring the Glory” - Based in Church teaching and St. John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body”, seminarians delve deeply into their identity as men, how they relate to God in their sexuality, their relationships with men and women, and the process of growing in chaste celibacy. Daily teaching is augmented by personal reflection, daily Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation and personal prayer experience. (This first week is a conference open to about 55 participants-including lay people. The Seminarians will be joining the conference.)
Week Two (Spirituality) - A guided silent Retreat, focusing on the “discerning of spirits” and the 3 stages of the spiritual life (purgative, illuminative and unitive), bringing the prior week’s material into intimacy with the Holy Trinity. Includes daily Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, group prayer and spiritual direction.
Week Three (Human) - Healing the Whole Person- An experience into the deeper places of personal deficit, often around abandonment, rejection and shame. Teaching is drawn from the book “Be Healed” and the “Healing the Whole Person” workbook. Will include teaching, small group meetings, personal prayer experiences, daily Mass and reconciliation.
Week Four (Pastoral) - Training and equipping that integrates the three previous week’s material and prepares the seminarian to utilize the experience in their personal and ministerial lives. The focus will be on personal and ministerial application, including practice and coaching by Center staff. (along wihh availability of the Sacraments and daily prayer.)
